In a typical Music Together® class, ten children and their parents or caregiver (nanny, grandparent, babysitter, etc.) meet for 10 weeks, 45 minutes each week to experience new songs, chants, movement activities, and instrumental jam sessions.  Adults and children participate together, led by a teacher with early childhood and music skills.  Talking is rare--the class moves smoothly through a variety of musical activities designed to expose the children to a wide range of musical concepts while keeping their attention.

Children (and adults) have many opportunities to create and to play--making up rhythm patterns, suggesting new words to songs, and inventing new moves.  Some children simply stare and absorb the musically rich environment.  Others sing, play, and dance freely because they know the songs from the recording and songbook they take home.  All experience a comfortable, encouraging environment that respects individual temperaments and learning styles.

In accordance with current research on child development, the classes are conducted in mixed-age format.  The program is designed to teach on many different levels simultaniously, so younger and older children will both find it stimulating.  Families are encouraged to attend with all siblings ages birth to 5 years.  Many children attend with grandparents and the evening classes are commonly attended by both Mom and Dad.  Families find that their involvement in the program enriches their family life because music is something the whole family can enjoy together.

Each 10-week session includes 2 cd recordings of the music, a parent education session, and a parent guide.  There are 9 non-sequential song collections and we cover three each year, so many families remain in the program for several years.
